Why do many believe in a doomsday scenario, a dystopian future or an apocalypse when life improves globally with a particular metric?

The “Zeitgeist” is something cyclical. As a child I knew the years 1960 (rather utopian and community themes), 1970 (Doomsday Scenarios around terrorism and exhaustion of energy sources), 1980 (utopian but individualistic-with fear of a nuclear war at collapse of the USSR), 1990 (utopian /individualistic with outstanding environmental consciousness), and the early 21st century (deepening “doom and gloom” especially around environment).

These are brutal simplifications for a European, and of course someone in another part of the world will experience these periods very differently, but this is how I have experienced those periods.As you see: Back and forth.

I suspect that high-profile, symbolic events play an important role: Sixties (student rebellions from Berkeley 64 to La Sorbonne and Mai 68), Seventies (oil crises, starting unemployment, airplane hijings and Revolution in Iran), Eighties (the Reagan/Thatcher era, “Greed is Good”), Nineties (The Wall has fallen!), early 21st century (9/11, Afghanistan/Iraq, attacks in Europe, the financial crisis, rising environmental awareness, yellow vests).

In the past, more people believed in a doomsday scenario than nowadays.Also improves confidence in the future. 😉

During the evolution of man, famine, genocide, violence was more common.The fact that man has developed the ability to carry on with ketone combustion suggests that we sometimes had to bridge hunger periods before we found food again. It could even be the speciality of our kind to survive it anyway. The calamity is ingrained with us.

On the Christian yard, the one hype about the Apocalypse is followed by the other, although it depends a lot on which department you are Kerkt and socializing.It sometimes seems more like a sub-cultural hobby than godliness. At special encounters in church or at home one speaks seriously about the last days, where one consumes ten flavors of tea and chocolates. I haven’t experienced any drinks nuts or popcorn, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

I miss the lack of sober and contextual thinking in the sacred unquestionable belief in many kinds of companions.I am fairly liberal, with an orthodox core of super natural beliefs and experiences. So both Orthodox and liberal is not really spent on me anymore. I find apocalyptic musings less useful than attention to problems in your own neighbourhood and region. What I do not do myself, my sacred vocation is online, so do have some better things to do.

Bibles, there is also some nuance to make contextual.There are certainly some fiery (literally and figuratively) books and passages, but it also often communicates rather as a periodic apocalypta than a big blast on the last day of the nature Kloot. You will also see theological two lines, the one of major disasters but also restoration, as a wave movement through history. I sometimes say: revelation does not beget theologians, it digestes them.

It is also a selective blindness for the improvements.One prays the Leplazarus but does not “see” any verhorations, while they are quite evident present in the world. Few people would really want to go back to the past, no matter what century. So yes the Lord, son Sweet and staff do their good work, see ingratitude and self-pity at his fan club and Zebaoth regularly wonders: Het seems like I’m doing it for the cat’s cunt.

Oh well, theological I certainly believe in a “Grande Finale” and a happy end, where I don’t have this time about an obscure Thai massage shop of course.A show where Hollywood’s special effects fade. But I have enough problems and tasks in the present. That heaven lands on earth does not mean that in the meantime we have to change things in hell. Sermon No heaven, but be a heaven for people. So for the time being but on Thai then;-)
