What are the most strange Dutch surnames you’ve ever encountered?
First of all, it is not my intention to insult or hurt people.I find the names that I call in this answer uncommon. Even I am aware that my own name for many Dutch speakers is also strange.
I have ever had a classmate called Niemantsgrief .When I first read her name, I thought it was an error. This name did not fit completely on our list of names.
In addition, I have ever spoken to one Mr. Mooiweather.I believe he comes from Suriname.
Furthermore, I once met someone with the name of Nispen until Sevenaer .This name is not strange, but I found it very posh.
I also talked to one Mr. Nooitmeer.I believe that this gentleman comes from Suriname.
Finally, I find the names Goekoop And Kopijn also tricky to write. You should be careful not to make a spelling mistake.
In itself, both names are not strange surnames, but if you put them in a combination though.
Ever heard in a church an announcement that Mr. Lummel was married to Mrs. van den Broek.
Maybe not everyone knows, because it is a somewhat outdated word, but 芒 鈧?虄Lummel芒 鈧劉 is an indication for the male sex organ…
That became the couple Lummel-uit den Broek.
At that time I was still at the Lower School… so you understand, that this caused some gniffel.
My surname is van der Ploeg.Ever briefly had something with a girl what 芒 鈧?虄Knol芒 鈧劉 with her surname heette芒 鈧?娄 probably never got some, because she saw 芒 鈧?虄van der Ploeg-Knol芒 鈧劉 not as a surname…
A funny surname in combination with the profession I found earlier in Gorinchem on the windows of a butcher shop: 芒 鈧?虄Wijnand Bakker-Your Slager芒 鈧劉.
Or the head of the Financial department where I used to regularly sent invoices: Mrs. Kleingeld.
Addition
And once you are so busy… I wonder what my old-classmate 芒 鈧?虄Wouter Cornelis Bril芒 鈧劉 become… the best boy had no life anymore, when Wout told what his initials were.
And thinking of Wijnand Bakker, I thought that earlier in Gorinchem architectural firm 芒 鈧?虄Rothuizen芒 鈧劉 had guts to enter the market under the name of the owner. And pastor 芒 鈧?虄of The Here芒 鈧劉 is not someone, whom I would believe on 芒 鈧?虄the Word 芒 鈧劉;)
Poor woman.I have now called her for the third time on social media, but I laugh every time:

Naaktgeboren.
It sounds like a very posh or important name. A bit in the trand of 芒 鈧?虄highborn芒 鈧劉, 芒 鈧?虄Dragonborn芒 鈧劉 and other fantasy names for important, historical people. However, it is quite banal.
I knew someone who was called Lijkedijk, which I still find the best surname I have ever heard.
Enne, De Dam, with C-O-C-k!
That used to be a nice game: if (the Radio-transhipment) Theo Koomen marries with ready then his wife is called….
But you don’t mean that.Sorry.
I once heard of a gentleman Pot who wanted to call his daughter Flower. The municipality happily put a stick to that.
The following memories from my childhood:
De Gier, Modderkolk, Ruigrok, Boon Stoppel, Vroegindeweij, Kaashoek.
And then there is naturally also Hemeltje, who had a grocery store to the Holy Spirit away in Noordwijk inside.
The most intriguing surname I have ever encountered (I had a pupil that was so called) is Magen dans.No idea where the name comes from. I recently used it in a novella for an official who was very easy to get air sick. There are about 150 in the Netherlands. Also a coincidentally very freak name is from 芒 鈧劉 t Padje. The name is older than the current meaning.
