Dogs don’t need to go to dog school, except maybe to meet their mates and learn that you can’t rip 50 kilos of Great Danes as Chihahua (socialization function). For this, it is best to start with the arrival of the breeder and stay at least until the end of the puberät between 1 and 2 years (depending on the breed). Ideally, the breeder has also appropriately socialized the dog, and he then learned how to deal with humans and dogs during his adulthood.
Why is this so important?Because there are two sensitive phases in the dog’s life. Once the embossing phase of which one as a non-breeder rather little, or only the end one notices. This is between the fourth and fifth week and the eighth to twelfth week. Now many things are already imprinted on the dog, and you as a new owner now have time to grind on them or to condition the dog. Around the onset of puberty (approximately half to a year depending on the breed) there is another sensitive but rather socially important phase. The behavior here begins to change again due to changes in the hormonal balance. Here, too, socialization, conditioning and imprinting on things like common, sexual partners, sexual competitors or simply the smell of a or a male is important. Conflicts of rank and resources will also develop differently during this time. Here, the dog school helps to learn how to deal with it and to work consistently and sustainably with the dog.
The dog school (or the dog club) is to show you as a dog handler how you have to train and work with the dog.And that’s outside the dog school! If you want to train consistently and sustainably with the dog, then it is also about working not only on the pitch, because then the dogs that hear on the square and outside do not, but also everywhere else. Sustainable education only becomes apparent when you have made mistakes and can still iron it out on the basis of your basic education. If this is not the case, then even basic commands with the dog are annoyingto enforce.
In the best case, you always go to dog training, or later to dog sports or dog work. The dog school never ends! If you have reached the level of a guide dog test, you can
- THS – Tournament dog sport,
- Dog Dancing,
- Dog tricks,
- Hunting dog training,
- Therapy dog training,
- Therapy companion dog training,
- Assistance dog training,
- Search and rescue dog training,
- Protection dog training,
- Visiting dog training,
- Train dog sport,
- Frisbee or the
- Sniffing dog training (search for drugs, explosives, etc.)
to continue.I’ve probably still forgotten something, but it’s clear that the dog-human team can continue after the “dog school”. Once you can go to the sports or art college, or it can go to the vocational school. And even then, humans and dogs keep learning at work.
So the answer is: as long as it is somehow physically possible!
