How does pizza in the US differ from pizza elsewhere in the world?

You can’t answer that.Because pizza is available in some quite different variants in the USA, ostensibly New York or Chicago style or local versions of it.

A pizza in New York will be hard to distinguish from pizzas in Italy.After all, there were an enormous number of Italian immigrants there.There are even several districts that are or were known for Italian cuisine and culture, such as:

Then there is e.g. Chicago-style pizza.

This version is largely unknown in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, but was invented by Italian immigrants in Chicago. It is also known as deep-dish pizza or stuffed pizza.

In California, there are again self-creations.And elsewhere.

But in general, pizza is most likely to be like New York pizza in most parts of the US. Pizza Hut, on the other hand, is pan pizza, a variant of Chicago style, but even that is not representative of pizza in the US.
